I had an interesting question land in my inbox the other day – from a woman who wanted to know whether to use yoni eggs or yoni steaming for a certain sexual health issue she was wanting to address. There is obviously a lot of overlap between the two practices. So that got me thinking about writing a blog comparing the 2 practices – and the best applications for each of them… And here it is – hope you find it useful.
Toning The Pelvic Floor & Prevention of Prolapse & Incontinence
Both practices will work for this – but I consider yoni eggs to have the edge when it comes to toning the muscles. There are definitely herbs you can use which, when steamed, will certainly assist with toning the vaginal/pelvic floor muscles – but the right muscle workout using a yoni egg (including the vitally important part of RELAXING your muscles too) really gets results.
Toning Muscles Both Pre- and Post-Childbirth
I would say that for preparing for childbirth, a yoni egg practice is a great way to build up tone – but I would only recommend it up until when you fall pregnant, not afterwards. Some women do continue with a gentle practice whilst pregnant – but this is entirely at your own risk, as it could cause miscarriage/premature labour – which is why I never recommend it. So a yoni egg can be really useful in preparing for childbirth – and can help a lot as long as you have used it regularly for at least 6 months prior to conception. Yoni eggs are also very useful in toning your vaginal muscles and pelvic floor after birth too – but you need to wait at least 6 weeks or until any birth trauma (eg tears, episiotomies) are fully healed before you do so.
Yoni steaming should never be done when you are pregnant.
Yoni steaming does come into its own, however, as hands-down THE best thing you can do for your body (and baby) after you’ve given birth. You can start at Day 4 following the birth and steam every day for 30 days. The benefits are huge – from healing birth trauma/stitches/tears etc, to clearing out left-over blood and mucus from the womb, to shrinking the uterus back to its normal size, to toning your vaginal muscles, to producing more oxytocin (instrumental in the production of breast milk and bonding with your baby). You can read more about post-partum steaming here.
Healing Sexual Trauma
Although I believe that all of the tools and practices I teach can, by their very nature of reconnecting with our bodies and sexuality, help in healing trauma, I would say that yoni eggs again have the edge over yoni steaming. Crystals can be used to both remove unwanted emotions and introduce wanted emotions/qualities to our lives. More about the practice of using a yoni egg in this way, here.
Yoni wands can also be used very effectively to “de-armour” the vagina of the effects caused by sexual trauma – and you can read more about that process here.
Increasing Orgasmic Pleasure
Both practices will bring more circulation to the entire pelvic area, meaning that both can help to bring more sensation overall. But yoni eggs definitely increased and deepened my orgasmic experiences in a profound and powerful way. And yoni wands, even more so 🙂
Increased Vaginal Lubrication
Both practices increase warmth and circulation to the pelvic area, thus increasing the nutrient supply to, and the detoxification from, the ovaries – assisting them to produce the correct hormones in the correct proportions and at the right times. The combination of increased circulation and balanced hormone production greatly assists in increasing vaginal lubrication. Both practices work equally well for this.
Again, for the reasons given above, both practices will work well for this. Balanced hormones in turn mean reduced PMS, reduced period pain, reduced menopausal symptoms, healing of PCOS and uterine fibroids, reduction of endometriosis, increased fertility, regulation of menstrual cycles (short, long or absent). Yoni steaming would still be my first choice here, though – it is phenomenal for sorting out sexual and reproductive health issues (and, very often, super-quickly too). I would just recommend a consultation with a yoni steaming practitioner before steaming for the first time – that way you will be guaranteed to use the correct herbs and steaming protocol for your own individual needs.
Chronic Vaginal Bacterial/Yeast Infections
Yoni steaming is definitely the only practice to use here! Best not to use a yoni egg nor yoni wand if you have any kind of infection – it is only likely to aggravate it further.
Both practices can help, but yoni steaming would still be my first choice for increasing fertility and preparing for conception. You can read more about this here.
Vaginal reflexology works in exactly the same way as conventional reflexology does – except using reflexology points inside the vagina rather than on the feet or ears. This harmonises any imbalances in the body and also helps to de-armour the vagina, releasing trauma and increasing our openness to experiencing pleasure. Yoni eggs (and yoni wands) are the winners at this one. More about de-armouring here.
Grounding Nervous/Anxious/Scattered Energy
Both practices are very grounding, involving as they do, our root chakra. Yoni steaming brings the grounding energies of various herbs – which carry earth energy, having been grown in the earth. And the grounding effects of yoni eggs can also be increased by working with specific stones such as Red Jasper, Black Obsidian and Carnelian – all very grounding and stabilising crystals to work with.
Activation Of Chi/Life-Force/Sexual Energy
Both practices will help activate our Chi/Life-Force/Sexual Energy – and the practice of choice is likely to vary from woman to woman. Personally, I find a yoni egg to be more effective for doing this (particularly when used for yoni weight-lifting!) – but experiment to find the one that lights you up the most. Increased energy will be experienced by an increase in creativity, passion and libido.
Reconnection To Divine Feminine Energy
Both yoni eggs and yoni steaming – as well as yoni wands – can assist you in this. Working with our sacral chakra as we do with these practices, and then learning to feel and circulate our sexual energy throughout our body, infuses our sexual energy with our heart energy and then combines that with the inspiration of divine universal energy via the crown chakra. In addition, I also encourage pleasure breaks and pleasure days – to connect us more closely/keep us connected to the divine feminine wherever possible. You can read more about the importance of regular pleasure rituals here.
So that’s the lowdown on yoni eggs and yoni steaming… Really hope this post helps you to make your best choice between the two. Any questions or comments, please feel free to post below.
