When exploring the vast topic of Epigenetics, we’re given insight into the importance of creating the right energetically-nurturing environment in which all aspects of our health and happiness can flourish.
For so many years, the accepted scientific view of health and disease was that it all came down to genetic expression. More recently, quantum physics – the most fundamental science on the planet – has proven that less than 1% of disease is actually caused by genes and their expression. What was found rivaled the original theory with a relatively new and empowering discovery that over 99% of all disease is caused by our environment – and so the scientific study, known as epigenetics, was born.
The work of Dr Bruce Lipton – author of Biology of Belief and The Honeymoon Effect – is a major component to the study of Epigenetics. His discovery arrived after conducting an experiment with 3 identical stem cells separated into different petri dishes. These cells have the unique ability to adapt and develop into whichever cell is most needed in our body, and when Dr Lipton fed them different mediums, the results were widely varied. One formed muscle, another developed into fat and the third grew into bone. His conclusion stated that what they were fed, and ultimately, their environment, determined their development. In our bodies, our brains are responsible for making the food for our cells, which is our blood. When we have a positive or negative thought, they impact the chemical composition of our blood, which ultimately changes the response of our cells to the food they receive. They’ll either adjust in a healthy, positive way, or a negative and detrimental way.
Negative thinking can be taxing on the body and mind, which can contribute to added stress and impact on our immune systems. As we work with the awareness that we are not our genes, through practice and various forms of energy work, we are able to transform our reactions into responses, train ourselves with healthy habits and rewire our physiology. And with regular self care and pleasure breaks, we’re setting ourselves up for success.
The inner smile meditation, included in my Yoni Vitality Programme, is a Taoist practice which uses the power of positive thoughts and imagery to build and distribute healing energy throughout the body – a fantastic example of epigenetics at work. As all organs have both positive and negative emotional states relating to them, as seen in the vaginal reflexology chart I offer when you sign up for my newsletter. For example, when the liver is in a negative state, we’re likely to be feeling angry, frustrated or irritable, whereas in a positive state, those would likely transform into patience, compassion and kindness.
This Taoist meditation involves visualising each organ and taking the time to smile and send positive energy into each one. In terms of quantum physics and epigenetics, this meditation can be a catalyst in changing our blood chemistry, circulating and keeping our organs in a healthy condition. At the same time, this meditation helps us make room for naturally occurring positive states, through the cleansing of negative emotional charges within each organ. It is done best, sitting outside, with bare feet on the ground, or visualising roots travelling down and deep into the earth.
Understanding the importance of creating a positive environment for the health of our cells, also shows us the importance of being very selective over where we take our body and who we share it with too – as this will obviously have a very strong and direct impact on creating a positive/negative state within ourselves. (It is also the loving way to live, of course. And sure, if we need to – and make the choice to do so – we can always override any negative influences from our external world – but when we love ourselves we always want to choose the best for ourselves). The more we start to live life from an energetic space, the more we will rock our physical space too.
Practice smiling at yourself on a daily basis – as well as only choosing time to spend time with people who and in places that are kind to both your body and soul – and watch your life start to reflect this positivity right back at you! ♥
